Jamaica Jamaica Cuisine
If you're like me, you get excited when you hear the words "Carribean food",  but are put off by the words "curry, jerk and goat". This goat is NOT the Cabrito most San Antonians are used to; just open your mind to something different and you won't be disappointed.

I originally went off in search of the conch fritters I always see on the Food Network(something new for me that I still want to try)  and  one of my favorites,  Jamaican Beef Patties (if you've never had one of these savory beef, chicken or veggie turnovers, this is the place).  They were a nice portion, perfectly savory, and addictive. The more we ate, the more we ordered. $2.50 each.

Located at 2011 Austin Highway on San Antonio's Northeast side, Jamaica Jamaica Cuisine is small (there were only 12 tables, and we drove by it twice without seeing it) but big on flavor and service. We tried several dishes that were new to us so that we could taste a little of everything:

Mannish Water - Stew with lean goat, dumplings, peas, potatos, bananas and Jamaican herbs.  There is a little bit of afterkick, but not too spicy. The bowl was $5.00.

Brisket Plate with Rice and Peas - This was an "Off The Menu" special. They change, so be sure to ask. The brisket was very tender and the Festival almost has the consistency of cornbread and is a little sweet. Even if you don't get the brisket, make sure to try the Rice and Peas. Very nice., $10.00.

Coco Bread - This is very light and airy, it reminds me of a yeast roll. Make sure to get some to dip into the Mannish Water.

We didn't try the Ginger Beer or any of the Curries or Jerk dishes. Unfortunatley, they were out of Fried Plantains, but that just gives us an excuse to go back. We were, however, very happy with everything we did try, and look forward to our next visit.
